about

This is the latest mix of one of the first tracks Carruth and I recorded together circa 2007. To me, it sounds like a futuristic remembering. And I'm releasing it to shine some much-deserved light on this timeless project. Notice the subtle mastery in the balance of elements. Salute to one of the dopest musicians, one of the dopest humans, I know.

lyrics

I began within the womb
Hearing voices in the room
Multiple languages and music
This removed what would refuse it
And actually would help me choose it
And reflect connection to it
Lyrical umbilical damn near spiritual
Hard times need hard work not miracles.
This was burned into my blood
Because the rain would turn to flood
Because I'd have to earn the love
Of thugs who never learned to love.
Ways of Asians mixed with Cajuns
A hothead who's extremely patient
Time was up and I was born
Take the stage and mic is on.

Eyes open.
First breath. Let's go.
Crying because I'm trying to
Shine like Destro.
Green like pesto.
New to the world.
Big ears and big curls.
A fool for the girls.
A fool for everything.
In fact, my first lesson
Came to me quick
When I quit bedwettin:
Being lazy made me finish this song.
It's better to be pissed off than pissed on.
My second lesson I learned when I was five.
Listen because this might help you stay alive.
Trying to stay warm fresh out the tub,
I squatted to pet my dog and
Burned my ass on the radiator.
I jumped up and just like
The flick of a switch
I heard son don't ever bend over for no bitch
Little did I know I would fall
In love with this music
Now d. is all of the above

Since then,
I’ve lost my virginity,
Lost my mind,
Lost many jobs,
Lost much time.
I gave up and gave in.
Lives I've taken.
Robberies, break-ins, jail time, shaking.
Pagan studies, bloody battles with satan.
Now, I know it was a king in the making.
This is my life.
I live mine right,
Sunny days, funny papers, 20/20 hindsight.
Money and time’s tight.
I rhyme like I'm ready.
Ready for the bomb. I'm calm and I'm steady.
Armed with the weapons
Of the lessons of the past.
A monk and a teacher
Confessin to the class
This session's gonna last
To the essence of the craft.
History hides its lessons in the math.
Tell a young soldier
To get up off her ass
Because growth and development is fast.
